and police say he has access to multiple weapons and assault rifles. cnn's kyung lah is joining us from los angeles where the police chief is calling it extremely worry some and scare ree. what's the latest kyung? >> reporter: certainly scary for anyone connected to the police department in southern california. this is where today's shooting spree began but all of this, wolf, began earlier this week. the murder spree began on sunday with the double killing of a newly engaged couple, monica quan and keith lawrence, quan, the daughter of a retired lapd captain, the officer who represented christopher dorner in front of the police board that eventually fired him. dorner refers to quan's murder in his man guess stow. he writes, i never had the opportunity to have a family of my own. i'm terminating yours. self-preservation is no longer important to me. i do not fear death as i died long ago on january 2nd of '09, a date a few month after dorner was fired as a police officer. the lapd fanned out, launching 40 protection details throughout southern california. >> lapd is the specific target but a

everywhere. that is what john sibley has seen in hattiesburg. he jones us on the telephone. i'm here with our meteorologist chad myers. tell us what you saw. >> reporter: i picked up the tornado out of marion county, mississippi. there was initial report that came out of their emergency management agency that a tornado had indeed touched down and struck several homes, injuring several people. from there, i was able to pick it up about 10 miles to the west of hattiesburg. the storm was larger on the western side of the interstate than the eastern side. we've been able to go through and look at our video. now, the folks in west hattiesburg, i didn't hear sirens over there, but as we moved toward the college campus. the sirens were loud and proud. also want to give a shout out to the local fire department. as the tornado was paralleling highway # 8 and moving into the city. they were out there blocking traffic to keep folks from driving into the tornado as well as police out on the interstate. they had the interstate blocked for a time. >> chad myers, just amazing video we're watching here. what

, he alleged 3 threatened to use his navy training to harm police officers involved in the case and their families. quoting here, i will bring unconventional and a symmetrical warfare to those in lapd uniform weather on or off duty. now an irvine couple is shot to death in the parking deck of their upscale complex. the victims are monica quan and her fiance. her father, randy was a retired cop who worked with dorner. inside night, police name christopher jordan dorner the chief suspect in the sunday night murders. police warees erous. dorner is say reservist known to be a skilled marksman. thursday around 1:30 in the morning, ktla reports doerner is spotted in corona. two police officers are in purr cute when dorner gets out of the truck and starts firing. one was grazed and the other not hurt. dorner flees. then a short time later, another shooting involving cops. this time in riverside. police say two officers on routine patrol are shot after being ambushed at an intersection. one officer is dead and another critically wounded. authorities are linking both shootings to dorner.

, and welcome back to special coverage of the blizzard 2013. live images coming to us from boston. one of the arias being impacted by this massive storm dumping a record amount of snow in some places. that's proving a problem for people traveling especially from, say, connecticut to massachusetts. they have been urged to stay off the road. in new york hundreds of drivers are stuck trapped by know on the long island expressway. joining me on the phone to talk more about that is ed shiner. he is the director of emergency preparations for suffolk county. ed, thanks for joining us this morning. and let me ask you this, where are these cars and home do you think are stuck? >> well, most are on the long island expressway and some of the roads that travel north and south on -- in the county also are at the higher elevations where we got higher accumulations of snow. we have cars stuck up there nearly all of the cars have been searched and all of the people have been removed through a risky operation that took place over the last two or three hours and been successful in removing those folks.
